Music is everywhere in nature and the life sciences, not just birdsongs. Alston’s brown or singing mice exhibit wide-ranging vocals. There’s even a natural rhythm to life’s development, as evident in the C. elegans worm. And now, live music has returned to Cold Spring Harbor Laboratory (CSHL) as CSHL’s Concert Series is back for the first time since 2019.

The classical music showcase kicked off last month with cellist Adrian Daurov and pianist Spencer Myer. Dozens of concertgoers from across Long Island joined with CSHL researchers and visiting scientists from around the world to witness the virtuosic duo’s interpretation of two sonatas by Johannes Brahms.

Next up in the Concert Series, the husband-and-wife duet of Ukrainian pianists Anna and Dmitri Shelest heads to CSHL’s Grace Auditorium for an hour-long performance on Friday, October 6. Doors open at 5:45 p.m. The show starts at 6:00. A one-hour reception will follow. Tickets are on sale now via eventbrite.
